Frieze London opened in Regent's Park on October 14, bringing together international galleries, artists and visitors for its 2026 edition. Alongside paintings and sculptural works, the fair introduced an unusual sensory experience: custom scents in its bathrooms.
Created by artist Gray Wielebinski and produced by creative studio Dean's Bottom, the installations use toilet blocks designed to evoke the atmosphere of Wielebinski's studio. The fragrance was described as combining notes of pencil shavings, paint, dust and sweat.
The fair also featured works including Anish Kapoor's reflective stainless-steel sculpture "Green and Brandy," shown at Kukje Gallery, and a sculpture by Teresa Solar Abboud. Together, these varied encounters reflect how contemporary art events can engage visitors beyond the traditional gallery experience.
As cultural spaces explore more sensory approaches, future art fairs may invite audiences to experience works through an even wider range of senses.
