Wordle may look simple, but a thoughtful approach can help players make better use of each turn. These five strategies focus on gathering clues, choosing effective opening words and adapting to the game's rules.
Use guesses to uncover new letters
Early guesses can be more useful as information-gathering moves than as attempts to solve the puzzle immediately. If a word reveals that "ER" belongs at the end, try testing several unconfirmed letters in your next guess instead of repeating the same ending. This can quickly narrow down the possibilities.
Standard play allows you to test letters without reusing every green result; hard mode requires you to use confirmed letters. Choosing between the modes depends on whether you prefer flexibility or an added challenge.
Choose a varied opening word
A strong first guess uses five different letters and tests several common consonants. T, N, S, H, R, D, L and C are useful options, while E and A are frequent vowels. Words such as TRASH, CRANE, STEAL and STARE cover a range of common letters.
Build a two-word opening plan
A second, non-overlapping starter can test more of the alphabet early. ARISE followed by TOUCH checks all five vowels and several common consonants. You can also create your own pair: after a vowel-heavy opener such as ADIEU, a consonant-rich choice like THORN can add useful coverage.
Using two planned guesses prioritizes collecting clues, so consider whether that approach suits your play style before committing to it every day.
Read your win percentage as an estimate
The displayed win rate may be rounded, meaning the percentage shown does not necessarily reveal your exact record. After a loss, a long run of wins may be needed before the displayed figure rises again. Treat it as a broad progress indicator, not a precise measure of performance.
Keep past answers in consideration
Wordle answers are no longer guaranteed to be new. Since February 2026, previously used solutions may appear again, so remembering an earlier answer can no longer rule it out.
Combining flexible guesses with a varied opening plan can make daily play more deliberate, while future puzzle updates may continue to reshape how players approach the game.
