Dream, a startup founded by former Palantir executives Andy Alder and Arjun Mather, has raised $17 million in seed funding to build AI tools for architecture, engineering and construction. The round was led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from SV Angel, XYZ and Zigg Capital.
The company is developing a world model designed to generate building plans that account for real-world construction requirements. Unlike general-purpose AI that can produce building concepts without verifying their feasibility, Dream says its system considers structural elements, materials, plumbing and heating and cooling systems.
Dream reports that its model was trained on more than 100 million square feet of building data drawn from U.S. permit archives. The startup describes its approach as "structural cognition," with the goal of helping professionals develop designs and estimate project costs. Its platform is already being used on 10 projects in Texas and California.
By bringing AI into early-stage design and planning, Dream aims to make building development more efficient. If the technology proves useful across more projects, it could help construction teams evaluate ideas and costs earlier in the process.
