Consumer artificial intelligence is moving into a broader experimentation phase, according to Andreessen Horowitz partner Olivia Moore. While ChatGPT remains the category's largest platform, emerging products such as Suno and ElevenLabs are demonstrating that specialized AI experiences can build lasting user interest.
New revenue models for everyday AI
Moore's assessment suggests that consumer AI may not need to rely solely on monthly subscriptions or API usage. Advertising-supported access, optional premium tiers and new commerce-driven models could help bring AI tools to wider audiences while creating more diverse revenue streams.
A key factor will be matching each task with the right level of computing power. Many everyday uses do not require the most advanced models, opening the door for more efficient systems and wider adoption of open-source models. This could reduce operating costs for developers and make AI services more accessible for consumers.
The line between consumer and professional tools is shifting
AI products increasingly begin with individual users before expanding into professional and enterprise settings. Platforms for product creation, marketing production and work management are attracting power users who adopt tools independently and later introduce them into teams.
Moore notes that this pattern is changing the traditional path of software growth. Companies can now move from consumer adoption to business use far more quickly, especially when their products support creative work, automation and collaboration.
At the same time, several major consumer categories remain largely open for AI innovation. Social platforms, retail, travel, personal finance, health services and digital marketplaces have yet to produce many leading AI-native products. These areas could become the next frontier for services designed around daily life rather than purely technical workflows.
The coming period may show whether consumer AI evolves from a productivity-focused market into a more integrated layer of digital life, combining affordability, personalization and practical value.
