Voice AI company Deepgram is acquiring Daily, the team behind Pipecat, a widely used open-source framework for building real-time voice and video AI applications. The companies have not disclosed the terms of the deal and say Pipecat will remain open source.
Pipecat coordinates live audio and video streams with tools such as speech recognition, language models and speech generation, helping developers build responsive AI experiences. Daily also provides hosted infrastructure for real-time calls.
Deepgram says the acquisition will strengthen its work on real-time communication and give developers more ways to connect models and services when building voice agents. The company says it aims to support a flexible ecosystem in which developers can choose the models best suited to their applications.
Alongside the acquisition, Deepgram is introducing the Real-Time Context Standard, an open protocol developed with the Pipecat team. It specifies how voice agents can use information from audio, follow model instructions and shape the way they respond.
By combining open infrastructure with shared protocols, the move could give developers a more adaptable foundation for creating real-time AI agents across voice and other communication formats.
