OpenAI is extending voice-based agentic capabilities to the ChatGPT mobile app, enabling users to initiate practical workflows through spoken requests while on the move.
Subscribers to ChatGPT Plus and Pro can use the mobile Work tab to create documents, draft emails, summarize Slack conversations, build presentations and explore web-based tasks. The update also supports access to connected work areas, including selected financial tools.
Users on Free and Go plans will be able to interact with plugins and connected applications, expanding the range of tasks that can be managed from a single conversational interface.
Voice and text in one workflow
The update brings richer text responses to voice conversations and allows people to switch smoothly between speaking and typing. A task started on a phone can also be continued later on a desktop device, creating a more consistent experience across platforms.
The rollout follows the introduction of GPT-Live, OpenAI's conversational voice model designed for more natural real-time exchanges. By bringing similar capabilities to mobile, ChatGPT is positioning voice as a practical interface for everyday productivity rather than simply a feature for questions and answers.
As AI assistants become more integrated into work routines, mobile voice workflows could make digital tools more accessible, flexible and responsive to how people manage tasks throughout the day.
