Before Charles Melton rose to fame as a captivating actor, he showcased his athletic prowess as a high school football player. Known for his speed with a 4.5-second 40-yard dash, he earned a preferred walk-on position at Kansas State University. Although he transitioned to acting, Melton, now 35, continues to embrace an active lifestyle. For his upcoming role in the second season of Netflix's Beef, where he portrays Austin, a former Division 1 football star and personal trainer, Melton has returned to his fitness roots.
Recognizing that his approach to weight training has evolved since his younger days, Melton notes, "I'm getting older, and you realize you need functional movement, and you need to work on the ligaments and the tiny muscles that hold the other muscles together." He shared insights from his latest workout regimen with Men's Health.
Melton has adopted a balanced training philosophy, which he refers to as a "flow," combining mobility exercises, heavy lifting, and martial arts. He trains at Undefeated UACTP in Los Angeles, working closely with trainers Enele Maafu and Ty Manzo, with whom he has collaborated for approximately three years.
"I prefer more maintenance-type workouts, but there is something exciting about engaging in a structured program that I develop with Ty and Enele," Melton explains. "It's always refreshing to introduce new routines and challenges."
