Apple has unveiled a redesigned iPad mini featuring an 8.5-inch OLED display and its A20 Pro chip. The new model is thinner and lighter than its predecessor, measuring 5.4 millimeters thick, and comes in two colors.
A brighter, more immersive display
The Super Retina XDR screen uses OLED technology for pixel-level lighting control, delivering deeper blacks, richer contrast and support for the P3 wide color gamut. It reaches up to 1,200 nits of peak brightness, with a 2 million:1 contrast ratio. A new nano-texture option is designed to reduce glare in bright settings.
Apple has also added an Acoustic Display, with woofers integrated into the screen to support fuller sound during gaming, video viewing and content creation. Other updates include a 12-megapixel Center Stage front camera, faster wireless and cellular connectivity, and fast charging.
More speed for everyday tasks and AI
The A20 Pro pairs a six-core CPU with a seven-core GPU, with Neural Accelerators built into each GPU core. Apple says the chip delivers up to 60% faster multithreaded performance and up to 4.5 times faster AI performance than the previous generation.
The tablet supports the next generation of Apple Intelligence and Siri, including features that use personal context to help users find information and understand what is on their screen.
The Wi-Fi model starts at $699, while the Wi-Fi and cellular version starts at $849. Preorders open October 28, with availability beginning November 6. The combination of a compact design, brighter OLED screen and stronger on-device processing points toward increasingly capable tablets for work and creativity on the go.
