Apple's updated Siri brings AI features into everyday tasks across iPhone and Mac. These 10 tips show how to tailor its responses, work with on-screen content and streamline common routines.
1. Keep spoken replies silent
To read answers instead of hearing them, go to Settings > Siri > Responses and choose Silent Response.
2. Adjust Siri's voice
On supported devices, open Settings > Siri > Voice to change the speaking pace and expressiveness, as well as select a voice.
3. Ask about what's on your screen
Use Visual Intelligence to get information about selected text or screen content. On iPhone, select text and choose Ask Siri; on Mac, use the option from the right-click menu. You can also ask Siri about visible content and request related actions, such as opening a place in Maps.
4. Improve photo clean-up
In Photos, open an image's editing tools and choose Clean Up. Selecting High Quality can produce more detailed object removal, including attention to shadows.
5. Add schedule items to Calendar
Use Visual Intelligence on a schedule displayed on your phone to identify events and add them to Calendar, either individually or together.
6. Manage email with natural-language requests
Once Mail has indexed its data, ask Siri to find messages by context or handle tasks such as archiving emails from a particular sender and time period.
7. Send messages without an extra confirmation
For a quicker messaging workflow, enable Automatically Send Messages under Settings > Siri > Responses.
8. Use Camera Control to identify things
Press and hold Camera Control to open Siri's camera mode, point at something and tap the Siri icon. The feature can provide information and relevant actions; a Siri shortcut can also be added to supported controls.
9. Build Shortcuts by describing them
In Shortcuts, use Describe a Shortcut to explain what you want in everyday language--for example, a morning briefing with weather, calendar events and tasks.
10. Switch to ChatGPT for a question
If you need another response, open Siri's text field, choose Ask and select ChatGPT where available. Siri can also direct a request back to its own models.
As these tools become more integrated, voice assistants could make routine digital tasks feel more direct and personalized.
