Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 5: A Fast Racer Put to the Mileage Test

The Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 5 brings a new carbon-infused support design and updated foam to the brand's racing-shoe lineup. A road test covering just over 35 miles found it light, responsive and well suited to fast running, with a few fit and durability considerations.

Updated design, lighter feel

Instead of the EnergyRods used in earlier models, the Pro 5 features an Energyrim carbon element surrounding the foot, set between layers of Lightstrike Pro foam. Adidas says the revised foam offers more energy return than the previous version. At 177 grams, the shoe is also lighter than its predecessor, while a streamlined upper and updated outsole complete the redesign.

How it performed on the road

During training for the New York City Marathon, the tester logged more than 35 miles on city streets, including runs of 13 and 16.5 miles. The shoe felt quick and springy, with a firmer ride that still provided a sense of stability. Once the lacing was adjusted, the fit felt secure over longer efforts.

The heel padding caused irritation and blisters during testing, so reinforced socks helped improve comfort. The exposed carbon element may also be noticeable to runners whose stride brings their legs close together.

Durability and intended use

After the test mileage, the outsole showed some wear, but it did not affect performance. Adidas has made minor changes to outsole coverage to help reduce cosmetic abrasion. Individual results may vary depending on running form and conditions, so checking the sole over time remains sensible.

The Pro 5 is designed primarily for race day and faster sessions rather than every run in a training plan. Its blend of low weight and propulsion could make it a compelling option for runners chasing a personal best. As racing footwear continues to evolve, advances in cushioning and stability may help athletes pursue speed with greater confidence.
