Materials for the Arts (MFTA) is launching a free supply program for artists who receive city-funded grants. Starting October 19, eligible grantees can shop at the organization's 35,000-square-foot warehouse for materials to support their work.
The warehouse will open to participating artists from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the second Monday of each month, except on federal holidays. Available items may include leather spools, visual arts books and dinosaur masks.
The program complements an increase in grants for individual artists and small nonprofits, raising the maximum award from $5,000 to $10,000. MFTA Executive Director Tara Sansone said the expanded access aims to connect more artists and New Yorkers with the city program.
By pairing funding with reusable materials, the initiative could help more artists turn ideas into work while making creative resources more accessible across New York City.
