Waymo is expanding its robotaxi service to a new generation of riders by introducing teen accounts in Nashville. The program allows users aged 13 and above to request autonomous rides through an account connected to a parent or guardian.
Nashville becomes the second city to receive the feature after Phoenix, where Waymo introduced teen accounts in 2025. The company says additional launches are planned for markets where its operations are established and local regulations support the service.
A new mobility option for families
Once enrolled, teen riders can travel throughout Waymo's Nashville service area and bring up to three guests aged 13 to 17. The model is designed to offer families a practical transport alternative for journeys to school, work, activities and social plans.
Waymo began operating in a 50-square-mile area of Nashville in April 2026. Its autonomous vehicles also recently became available through the Lyft app, extending access to more local passengers.
Scaling autonomous mobility
The teen-account rollout arrives as Waymo continues to grow its paid robotaxi network across the United States. The company has expanded into multiple new cities, while weekly paid trips have increased from about 50,000 in May 2024 to more than 500,000 in early 2026.
By bringing supervised teen access to autonomous transport, Waymo is exploring how self-driving services could become part of everyday family mobility. The initiative may help shape a future in which on-demand autonomous travel is integrated into more stages of urban life.
