Iceland-based audio technology company Treble has raised $18 million in an extension to its Series A funding round. Led by Paladin Capital Group, the investment brings the company's total funding to more than $40 million.

Founded in 2020 by acoustic engineers Finnur Pind and Jesper Pedersen, Treble develops simulation tools for the rapidly expanding voice AI ecosystem. Its platform helps companies create synthetic audio data, assess speech models under realistic acoustic conditions, and test how voice-enabled products may perform before physical prototypes are built.

Building a digital test environment for sound

Voice interfaces are becoming central to customer services, wearable devices, smart speakers, robotics and next-generation consumer electronics. Treble's technology is designed to model variables such as background noise, room acoustics and device placement, enabling developers to evaluate speech recognition, noise suppression and audio enhancement systems more efficiently.

The company has also partnered with Hugging Face on a benchmark that examines automatic speech recognition models across varied real-world listening conditions. This approach aims to reduce reliance on conventional recorded datasets by using physics-based simulation to generate targeted audio training material.

Beyond software models, Treble works with manufacturers of headphones, speakers and voice-controlled hardware. Virtual acoustic testing can support product teams as they refine microphone placement, sound output and command recognition during early development stages.

From wearables to physical AI

A key focus is the future of wearables, including headphones and smart glasses capable of making conversations clearer in busy spaces. Such systems could help users prioritize nearby voices, reduce surrounding distractions and adapt listening experiences to different environments.

Treble is also expanding toward physical AI applications in robotics, automotive technologies and drones, where sound-based sensing and interaction may become increasingly important. As intelligent devices gain a better understanding of their acoustic surroundings, simulation-led development could accelerate more responsive and human-centered products.
