Nvidia has confirmed a $12.93 billion acquisition of Hugging Face, bringing one of the most influential AI platforms into its expanding ecosystem. The move links Nvidia's hardware strength with Hugging Face's widely used model-sharing network.
Hugging Face currently supports 3 million models, 1 million applications, and more than 18 million developers, alongside half a million datasets. The platform has become a central hub for open-source and open-weight AI development.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said Hugging Face will continue operating as an open platform, with developers still able to choose their preferred models, frameworks, cloud services, and deployment tools. He also stressed that Nvidia compute will not be required for building or running projects on the platform.
Huang noted that Nvidia has already published more than 500 models and 250 open datasets on Hugging Face, reflecting the company's long-term push toward open AI adoption. The acquisition is also expected to strengthen access to computing resources for enterprise users.
Founded in 2016, Hugging Face has raised more than $395 million to date. Its growth has made it a key name in the global AI community, especially as demand rises for open, collaborative tools that support faster innovation.
This deal could help shape a more connected AI landscape, where model development, deployment, and infrastructure move closer together in the years ahead.
