Tom Rhys Harries Takes the Lead in the Genre-Bending 'Clayface'

Actor Tom Rhys Harries is stepping into a new career chapter with Clayface, his first major blockbuster lead. In the DC Universe film, he plays Matt Hagen, an actor whose life takes an unexpected turn after an experimental treatment begins to change him.

Rather than treating the project as a conventional superhero story, the film leans into horror and explores ideas of identity, ambition and the pressures of being seen. Harries says the layered role challenged him to examine what kind of performer he wants to be and to seek projects with ideas that resonate beyond the screen.

The actor's own approach is practical and curious. He describes acting as an uncertain, instinctive craft, and finds balance in hands-on interests such as repairing motorcycles. Working on a machine offers a clear result, he says, in contrast to the open-ended questions that come with performance.

Harries, who once hoped to play professional rugby, is keeping his attention on the work rather than the spotlight. He says he values collaboration with writers, directors and fellow actors, and prefers to keep moving forward instead of dwelling on milestones.

With its genre-focused take on a familiar comic-book world, Clayface could broaden the range of stories explored in superhero cinema, while giving Harries a distinctive platform to shape his next steps.
