Blackstone's Jas Khaira to Explore What It Takes to Build Enduring AI Companies

Artificial intelligence startups are reaching scale at a pace rarely seen in previous technology cycles. Yet accelerated growth also brings a defining challenge: AI companies often need substantial funding for computing capacity, data infrastructure, talent and global expansion long before their long-term business models are fully proven.

Capital strategy takes center stage

At TechCrunch Disrupt 2026, Blackstone N1 global head Jas Khaira will discuss how founders can approach this new capital equation during a session titled "Building the Next Generation of AI Giants."

The discussion will focus on the difference between early market momentum and durable company-building. While funding can accelerate product development and customer growth, long-term success depends on deploying capital with discipline, building resilient infrastructure and creating advantages that can endure as the market evolves.

AI growth extends beyond software

Unlike many earlier software businesses, AI ventures may require significant investment in compute resources, data centers and implementation capabilities. This is reshaping how investors assess growth opportunities across the ecosystem.

Blackstone's recent activity illustrates the expanding scope of AI investment. The firm and co-investors agreed to provide up to $600 million in primary equity to Indian AI infrastructure company Neysa, alongside planned debt financing. Blackstone has also participated in a $1.5 billion joint venture supporting AI implementation initiatives.

These moves reflect a broader shift: the next generation of AI leaders may be defined not only by advanced models, but also by their ability to turn technology into scalable services, dependable infrastructure and sustainable commercial operations.

Building beyond initial traction

Khaira's session is expected to examine the decisions founders face while hiring teams, refining products, attracting customers and preparing for larger financing rounds. The central question is how to transform rapid adoption into a company with lasting relevance.

Scheduled for October 13-15 at Moscone West in San Francisco, TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 will bring together founders, investors, operators and technology leaders across more than 200 sessions.

As AI becomes a more infrastructure-intensive industry, thoughtful capital allocation could become one of the clearest differentiators between fast-growing startups and the businesses that shape the next era of innovation.
