TikTok USDS Joint Venture has joined Lantern, a technology industry initiative designed to strengthen child safety across digital platforms.
Launched in 2023, Lantern enables participating companies to securely share signals linked to potentially harmful behavior and content. The system is intended to help platforms identify patterns and take coordinated action when accounts or activities move between services.
A broader safety network
Lantern's member network includes major digital services and technology companies working to improve safeguards through cross-platform collaboration. By joining the program, TikTok USDS becomes part of a shared framework focused on faster detection and more consistent enforcement.
Through 2025, participating organizations had exchanged more than 2 million signals associated with possible policy violations, highlighting the growing role of privacy-conscious data sharing in online safety operations.
Investment in smarter reporting tools
TikTok USDS also announced a $2 million commitment to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children to support the modernization of its CyberTipline system. The initiative is expected to introduce advanced search, automation and analysis capabilities that can reduce manual review time and improve the speed of actionable reports.
The wider modernization project is planned over three years, with technology partners contributing resources to build a more efficient reporting infrastructure.
