Three Key Developments for February 11, 2026

Discover the latest updates on soybean futures, USDA's stock estimates for corn and wheat, and the weather forecast for central Iowa on February 11, 2026.

Three Key Developments for February 11, 2026

1. Decline in Soybean Futures Linked to Brazil's Production Forecast

In the overnight trading session, soybean futures experienced a decline following the USDA's updated forecast, which indicated an increase in Brazilian production and a rise in global stockpiles, as detailed in the latest World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report.

Brazil, being the largest exporter of soybeans globally, is now projected to produce a record-breaking 180 million metric tons, surpassing the previous estimate of 178 million metric tons and last year's 171.5 million metric tons, according to USDA data.

The global ending stocks are now expected to reach 125.5 million metric tons, an increase from the earlier forecast of 124.4 million metric tons.

While the USDA maintained its production outlook for Argentina at 48.5 million metric tons, it raised Paraguay's forecast to 11.5 million metric tons from 11 million metric tons previously.

China's import forecast remains unchanged at 132.9 million metric tons. Recently, discussions between U.S. officials and Chinese representatives suggested that China may purchase an additional 8 million metric tons of soybeans this year, on top of the already committed 12 million metric tons.

Traders are cautiously optimistic about China's potential increased purchases of U.S. soybeans, especially given the current low prices in Brazil. The USDA's report indicated that "China is reported to be considering more U.S. soybeans."

As for the markets, March soybean futures dropped by 3¢ to $11.19½ per bushel on the Chicago Board of Trade, while soy meal gained 30¢ to $301.10 per short ton, and soy oil futures decreased by 0.11¢ to 57.16¢ per pound.

Meanwhile, March corn futures remained stable at $4.28¾ per bushel, and wheat prices saw a slight increase of 4¾¢ to $5.33 per bushel, with Kansas City futures rising by 5¢ to $5.35½ per bushel.

2. USDA Adjusts Corn and Wheat Stock Estimates

The USDA has revised its projections for domestic corn stocks downwards while increasing the forecast for wheat inventories in the recent WASDE report.

Projected corn stockpiles at the end of the marketing year on August 31 are now estimated at 2.127 billion bushels, down from the previous forecast of 2.227 billion bushels.

Exports for corn are now set at 3.3 billion bushels, an increase from January's estimate of 3.2 billion bushels. The USDA has kept corn usage for ethanol steady at 5.6 billion bushels, with feed usage remaining at 6.2 billion bushels.

For wheat, while the overall balance sheet remains largely unchanged, the USDA has raised its outlook for domestic ending stocks, now estimated at 931 million bushels, up from 926 million bushels from the previous month. A slight reduction in wheat usage for food was noted, down by 5 million bushels to 967 million.

3. Weather Forecast: Light Rain and Snow Expected in Central Iowa

The National Weather Service has predicted light rain and snow for parts of central Iowa from this evening into tomorrow.

While accumulations are expected to be minimal, isolated slick spots could develop, particularly in north-central Iowa.

Additionally, flash flood watches are currently in effect in eastern Nebraska due to ongoing issues with ice jams on local rivers, which may lead to flooding as these jams move downstream.
