Meta's social platform Threads has crossed 500 million monthly active users, marking a major milestone nearly three years after its launch. Alongside the growth announcement, the app is rolling out a set of features designed to give people more control over what they see and how they connect.
More control over the feed
The standout addition is Your Algo, a new personalization tool that lets users privately shape their feed. Unlike the earlier public "Dear Algo" approach, this option allows people to request more or less content on specific topics without posting anything publicly. Users can set these preferences for one, three, or seven days.
Communities move forward
Threads is also taking Communities out of beta. The feature creates dedicated spaces for conversations around shared interests such as basketball, television, K-pop, and books. A new Communities Hub will help users discover these spaces more easily, while updated icons make them easier to recognize inside the app.
Live conversations expand
The platform is broadening Live Chats to more communities and adding co-hosting tools plus the ability to quote moments directly into the feed. The feature is built for real-time discussion around major cultural events and will be available to all communities by July.
Threads' latest updates show a clear focus on personalization, discovery, and live interaction. As the platform continues to evolve, it may help shape a more tailored and community-driven future for social media.
