In 2027, the Fondation Louis Vuitton will present "The Broad in Paris," the largest exhibition of works from the Los Angeles museum's collection ever shown outside its home city. Running from April 21 to August 30, the exhibition will bring 164 works to the French capital.
The collection spans influential figures in international contemporary art, including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Yayoi Kusama, Takashi Murakami, Cindy Sherman and Andy Warhol. The show is curated by teams from both institutions, including Broad curator Ed Schad and Fondation Louis Vuitton chief curator Olivier Michelon.
The exhibition will take place while The Broad is closed for renovation. The Los Angeles museum is expected to reopen in 2028 with 70 percent more gallery space. Founded by Eli and Edythe Broad, it opened in 2015; the Fondation Louis Vuitton welcomed visitors the year before.
Both institutions say the collaboration reflects a shared interest in presenting art from the 20th and 21st centuries, while introducing Paris audiences to artists from California's art scene. A companion publication will include images of the exhibited works, commentary and essays.
By bringing the collection to a wider international audience, the exhibition could strengthen cultural exchange and broaden access to contemporary art.
