Tesla's private Cybercab showcase offered a clearer look at the company's next step in autonomous mobility. The event was brief and tightly controlled, with key details later appearing in released documents and app terms rather than a long public presentation.
The Cybercab is designed as a fully autonomous vehicle powered by cameras and AI, with Tesla positioning it as a lower-cost alternative in the robotaxi space. At the same time, the company is still building confidence around how the vehicle will be used and regulated.
Key design and safety details
One notable update is that children under 13 are not currently allowed to ride in the Cybercab. Tesla also says minors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Unlike the company's Robotaxi Model Y, the Cybercab does not include standard child-seat anchors, and child seats must be secured with a seat belt.
In the event of a crash, Tesla says the vehicle is programmed to respond automatically: airbags deploy, doors unlock, hazard lights activate, the battery shuts down, windows move to a vent position, and the car comes to a stop before connecting with Tesla's rider support team.
The Cybercab also uses electronic door latches, while the manual release is placed visibly on each door's armrest. Tesla says the vehicle uses brake-by-wire technology, replacing hydraulic brake lines with electronic actuators. The windows cannot yet fully open, and the cabin includes USB-C ports rated at 90W.
With its compact hardware choices and software-led controls, the Cybercab reflects Tesla's push toward a more streamlined autonomous platform. If the system proves reliable in real-world use, it could help shape the next phase of urban mobility.
