Educational technology startup ScrollEd is developing a new way to explore study materials: transforming text-heavy files into a vertical, interactive learning feed designed for mobile-first habits.
The platform converts documents such as PDFs and textbooks into short, scrollable learning units that can combine AI-generated video, audio explanations, written summaries and interactive quizzes. Users can move to a new topic with an upward swipe or explore a subject in greater depth by navigating sideways.
Designed for curiosity, not endless scrolling
Founded by Stanford student Utsav Gupta and University of Pennsylvania student Rebecca Neff, ScrollEd aims to make deeper learning feel as intuitive as using today's most familiar digital interfaces. Its approach is built around short introductions that encourage learners to continue exploring a topic at their own pace.
Rather than optimizing solely for time spent on a screen, the team says it wants to create an environment where each concise lesson can lead to more detailed explanations and knowledge checks. Quizzes placed at the end of learning paths are intended to help users review and reinforce what they have absorbed.
From personal study to institutional learning
ScrollEd is planning a freemium model, with a free consumer experience alongside a paid Pro subscription and annual licenses for educational institutions. Schools and training organizations could use the platform to distribute learning materials while monitoring lesson engagement and progress.
The startup is also building a lesson library, a workflow for checking educational content, and tools that could eventually help educators adapt materials to individual learning needs. Its target audience includes students, workplace training programs and independent learners looking for more purposeful digital content.
By translating traditional learning resources into responsive, multimedia formats, ScrollEd reflects a broader shift toward more personalized and accessible education.
