South Korean artist and BTS member RM is bringing his long-running passion for visual art to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art with a new exhibition, "RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me."
Opening on October 5 and running through February 7, 2027, the exhibition presents nearly 150 works selected from RM's personal collection alongside pieces from SFMOMA's holdings. The project offers visitors an insight into the collector's artistic interests, built over approximately eight years through museum visits and a growing engagement with modern and contemporary art.
A personal lens on modern and contemporary art
RM's selection places a particular focus on Korean modern and contemporary artists while creating conversations with internationally recognized figures. The exhibition includes works by Yves Klein, Yoo Youngkuk, Wonwoo Lee, Giorgio Morandi, Kim Whanki, Han Youngsoo, Wayne Thiebaud and Chang Ucchin.
The artist has described collecting as a deeply personal process shaped by curiosity rather than formal academic training. One gallery section, titled "I Don't Know, But I Like It," reflects this intuitive approach and highlights the value of responding openly to art.
For RM, the exhibition is also an opportunity to share a collection that has evolved through time, attention and personal reflection. By placing his choices in dialogue with SFMOMA's collection, the presentation connects Korean artistic perspectives with wider global histories of modern art.
This collaboration signals how musicians and cultural institutions can create new pathways into art, potentially inspiring broader audiences to explore collecting, curating and cross-cultural exchange.
