Reddit says the feature is designed for moments when people want to listen while walking, exercising, or handling daily tasks. At the same time, it also opens the door to a more immersive experience where written conversations can be paired with voice and motion.
The idea reflects a broader shift across social platforms, where narrated posts and short-form video have become a familiar way to present popular discussions. Reddit has already experimented with video features before, including native video hosting, a TikTok-like feed, and video in comments.
For now, the original text post and comments will remain available, so the new format acts as an added layer rather than a replacement. If the test proves effective, it could help Reddit expand how stories are discovered and experienced in the years ahead.
