Reddit is exploring a fresh way to experience its most popular posts by combining video and audio in a single format. The company says it is developing a "video Reddit" experience that would let people watch clips while also hearing posts played in the background.
CEO Steve Huffman shared the update during the company's second-quarter earnings call, noting that this style of content is already gaining traction across other platforms. On TikTok, for example, millions of posts use Reddit-related hashtags, often pairing text-to-speech narration with unrelated visuals such as gameplay or cooking clips.
Huffman described the idea as a broader format for "listened-to" or spoken Reddit content, suggesting it could open a new layer of engagement for users. The feature is expected to enter testing later this year, though Reddit has not yet detailed how it will appear inside the main app.
The move reflects a wider shift across digital platforms, where short-form, vertical, and video-first experiences are becoming central to user engagement. Reddit's own video-in-comments feature, launched in June, is already showing momentum and now represents more than 10% of the platform's video posts.
If the test expands successfully, Reddit could turn its text-driven culture into a more immersive multimedia experience, pointing to a future where social storytelling becomes increasingly fluid across formats.
