Peak XV Raises Surge Investment Limit to $5 Million for New Global Startup Cohort

Peak XV raises Surge's startup investment limit to $5 million as its new 18-company cohort advances AI, robotics, space, healthcare and creative technology.

Peak XV Raises Surge Investment Limit to $5 Million for New Global Startup Cohort

Peak XV Partners has expanded the investment capacity of its seed-stage platform, Surge, raising its maximum commitment per startup from $3 million to $5 million. The move accompanies the launch of Surge 12, a cohort of 18 startups working across AI, robotics, space technology, healthcare, fintech, music and consumer services.

Peak XV invested more than $50 million across the new group, whose companies have collectively secured over $90 million in seed funding. The larger investment range reflects the growing capital needs of technical businesses, particularly those developing deep technology and AI-based products.

A global builder network

Surge 12 brings together founders building for markets from San Francisco to Sydney. While more than half of the selected companies are based in India, only five are focused primarily on the Indian market. The remaining ventures are pursuing international customers, highlighting the increasingly global ambitions of founders emerging from the region.

Since its launch in 2019, Surge has backed more than 180 startups founded by entrepreneurs from over 18 nationalities. Peak XV states that the ten largest businesses from previous cohorts now generate a combined annual revenue of more than $1 billion.

From AI safety to satellite intelligence

The latest cohort reflects a broad view of innovation. Alma is developing a personal computing platform, while August AI combines AI tools with physician-led healthcare services. HiLoop helps teams adapt open AI models for specialized use cases, and Reinforce Labs focuses on evaluating and improving enterprise AI systems.

Other ventures are addressing practical infrastructure and creative workflows. Puralink is creating autonomous robots for underground pipe networks, while ULOOK is building satellite systems for radio-frequency sensing. Riffle is developing a browser-based space for music creation and collaboration.

The cohort also includes platforms for talent discovery, personal finance, commercial insurance, children's care, beauty retail and social connections. Three additional companies, operating in education, applied AI and medical products, have not yet publicly introduced their offerings.

By pairing larger early-stage checks with a globally connected founder community, Peak XV's Surge platform could help more technical startups reach product readiness and international scale at a faster pace.
