OpenAI is reportedly exploring a new funding round of up to $30 billion, with a proposed pre-money valuation of $1.25 trillion. Coatue and investors from the United Arab Emirates are said to be leading the discussions.
The potential investment is still being negotiated, and its terms could change. The discussions may also include arrangements to expand OpenAI's access to computing capacity in the UAE. OpenAI has not commented publicly on the reported plan.
The financing would come after OpenAI filed confidential paperwork for a possible public offering in June. Its most recent funding round, in March, valued the company at $852 billion after the investment. A valuation above $1 trillion in a new private round would set a record for a privately held company and raise expectations for a future IPO.
For OpenAI, the proposed raise could provide capital and computing resources as it builds its AI business. Its eventual scale may also shape how investors assess major technology companies preparing to enter public markets.
