AI infrastructure company Modal Labs is reportedly nearing a $750 million funding round led by Accel, which could value the company at approximately $15.75 billion.
If completed, the investment would mark a significant rise from Modal's $4.65 billion valuation following its $355 million fundraise announced four months earlier. The momentum reflects expanding demand for AI inference infrastructure, which enables trained models to generate responses and complete real-world tasks efficiently.
Building the Compute Layer for AI
Founded in 2021 by CEO Erik Bernhardsson and CTO Akshat Bubna, New York-based Modal Labs provides cloud infrastructure for developers training AI models and operating compute-intensive applications without managing servers directly.
The platform supports teams working across coding, fintech, music generation and publishing. Its customers include Cognition, Suno, Ramp and Substack. Modal had surpassed $300 million in annualized revenue as of May, highlighting the growing commercial scale of AI infrastructure services.
Inference has become a central focus of the AI economy as organizations move from training models toward deploying them in products and workflows. This shift is increasing demand for flexible computing capacity, particularly among developers using open-source models.
Modal Labs' potential new funding round signals sustained investor confidence in platforms that make advanced AI computing more accessible. As AI tools become embedded across industries, scalable inference services may form an increasingly important foundation for the next generation of digital products.
