Search was originally designed for people who skim, compare, and click. Keenable is betting that the next major shift belongs to AI agents, which can process far more information and need faster, more precise access to source material.
The startup was founded by Andrey Styskin, formerly a leader in search, AI, and cloud at Yandex, and German AI scientist Matthias Petri. Keenable has emerged from stealth with $26 million in seed funding, led by Accel with participation from Conviction Partners and several angel investors.
According to the company, its web index already covers more than 100 billion documents. The API is being used by AI labs and inference providers for both training and live operation, while a recent partnership with voice AI company Gradium supports real-time information retrieval.
Keenable says its approach is built for scale: instead of scanning the web broadly and expensively, it focuses on narrowing the search space quickly based on each query. The company is also developing proprietary retrieval tools, including WebQueryLanguage, a system designed to combine information from multiple web sources when no single page contains the full answer.
The broader market is moving in the same direction. As AI systems become more agentic, demand is rising for search infrastructure that can ground answers in reliable documents and operate efficiently at web scale. Keenable plans to use the new funding to expand its team and strengthen its go-to-market strategy.
As AI assistants take on more complex tasks, search infrastructure may evolve from a human-first utility into a core layer for intelligent systems, shaping how knowledge is discovered and used in the years ahead.
