Mark Wahlberg is preparing to launch Municipal Gym, a wellness club designed to bring training, health assessments and recovery services together at a more accessible price. The first location, a 32,000-square-foot facility near Las Vegas, is scheduled to open in December.
The club is set to offer blood work and epigenetic testing alongside compression therapy, cold plunges and other recovery equipment. A café will serve items including protein muffins. Wahlberg says a $99 option will include three rounds of blood work and an hour-long appointment with a doctor to discuss potential health predispositions.
A broader approach to fitness
Municipal builds on Wahlberg's apparel brand of the same name. He describes the gym as part of a wider wellness ecosystem spanning what people wear, eat and use to support their fitness routines. The space is also intended to encourage members to spend time training, recovering and connecting with one another.
The concept takes aim at a growing premium wellness market, but Wahlberg says Municipal will offer comparable services at a lower price point. He has also described the expansion strategy as ambitious, though he has not specified how many locations he hopes to open.
The name reflects Wahlberg's memories of growing up in Boston and playing sports on public courts and courses. He says he wants the club to foster community, mutual support and personal growth.
If the model can pair comprehensive wellness services with a more approachable price, Municipal could help broaden access to the increasingly integrated fitness and longevity market.
