Lambda Raises $1 Billion to Expand Its AI Chip Fleet

AI cloud provider Lambda has secured $1 billion in private debt to purchase Nvidia chips and expand the computing capacity it leases to enterprise customers, including Microsoft. The financing was arranged by JP Morgan Chase, according to the report.

The structure of the deal suggests Lambda expects to put the chips to work quickly and generate enough revenue from rentals to repay the borrowing in a short period. In fast-moving AI infrastructure markets, speed of deployment can be as important as scale.

This latest round of funding adds to a growing series of chip-focused loans for the company. In May, Lambda closed a $1 billion secured credit facility, and this week it announced a $926 million term loan to support Nvidia GB300 GPU deployments under contract for Nvidia itself.

The company is also said to be exploring a $3 billion pre-IPO round, following a $1.5 billion venture capital raise last November that valued it at $5.43 billion after investment. More broadly, AI infrastructure spending continues to attract major financing, with global AI-related debt surpassing $400 billion in 2026 so far.

As demand for advanced compute grows, capital and chips are becoming the core building blocks of the next phase of AI expansion, shaping how digital infrastructure may evolve in the years ahead.
