Krafton Expands India Commitment With $250 Million Push Into AI and Deep Tech

Krafton is deepening its India strategy with a fresh $250 million investment plan over the next three to four years, extending its focus well beyond gaming into AI, robotics, and deep tech.

The South Korean company said the new pledge lifts its total planned investment in India to more than $500 million, building on the capital it has already deployed in the country since 2021. The move is separate from its earlier India-focused growth fund announced with Naver and Mirae Asset.

India has become a major growth market for Krafton, supported by a large base of internet users and smartphone owners. The company first gained strong traction through BGMI, its localized version of PUBG, which has crossed 260 million downloads.

Over time, Krafton has widened its footprint through startup investments and local partnerships. Its portfolio in India now includes companies such as Nodwin Gaming, Loco, Pratilipi, Kuku FM, and One Impression, alongside several gaming studios.

The company has also been strengthening its local presence through acquisitions and talent development. It recently took control of Pune-based Nautilus Mobile, the studio behind Real Cricket, and launched KIGI Academy to support game development and digital creation skills.

As Krafton expands from entertainment into emerging technologies, India is shaping up as a key hub for its next phase of innovation. The strategy may help define how global gaming companies evolve into broader digital ecosystem builders in the years ahead.
