KPMG Withdraws AI Report Amid Accuracy Concerns

KPMG has retracted its AI report after inaccuracies were identified, emphasizing the need for human oversight in AI-generated content. This may reshape future AI practices.

KPMG Withdraws AI Report Amid Accuracy Concerns

In a recent move, KPMG, a leading professional services firm, has retracted its report titled "Redefining excellence in the age of agentic AI." This decision follows feedback from various organizations that challenged the report's assertions regarding their AI implementations.

Research group GPTZero identified several inaccuracies within the report, which was released in October 2025. The organization indicated that these discrepancies were a result of what are termed AI hallucinations, suggesting that KPMG utilized AI technology in compiling the report about AI itself.

Notable entities such as UBS, the UK's National Health Service, Swiss Federal Railways, and Transport for London expressed their concerns to the Financial Times, stating that the report's claims about their AI usage were either incorrect or misleading. In response to these findings, a KPMG representative confirmed that the firm has removed the report from its platforms while conducting an internal review.

The spokesperson emphasized, "We expect all our people to adhere to our guidelines on the responsible use of AI, which includes human oversight to validate content and verify independent sources."

This incident is reminiscent of a similar situation last month when EY withdrew a report concerning loyalty rewards programs due to the inclusion of fabricated footnotes and inaccuracies attributed to AI hallucinations.

As the integration of AI technology continues to evolve, it is crucial for organizations to ensure accuracy and transparency in their communications. This development highlights the importance of human oversight in AI-generated content, paving the way for more reliable and responsible use of artificial intelligence in the future.
