Kalshi Gives George Santos a Lifetime Platform Ban

Kalshi has permanently banned George Santos and fined him over alleged State of the Union betting, signaling stricter compliance in prediction markets.

Kalshi Gives George Santos a Lifetime Platform Ban

Prediction market platform Kalshi has issued a lifetime ban to former Republican Representative George Santos, marking the company's first permanent removal of a user. The decision also included penalties for several political figures accused of placing bets tied to their own campaigns.

According to Kalshi, Santos was sanctioned after concerns that he wagered on whether he would attend President Trump's State of the Union address. The company said its compliance team found reasonable cause to believe the bets were linked to his own appearance at the event, and it imposed a $71,356 fine.

Kalshi stated that users who can influence the outcome of a market are not allowed to trade in it. The company also said Santos had made public comments that could affect the odds, placing the activity outside its rules.

Santos responded on X with a sharp message aimed at the platform, while the case also followed a separate settlement with the CFTC over the same conduct, which added another $35,000 penalty.

The action highlights how prediction markets are tightening compliance standards as they grow into a more visible part of digital finance. In the future, such enforcement could help shape clearer rules for trust, transparency, and participation in event-based trading.
