Prediction market platform Kalshi has asked Netflix to remove the trailer for its upcoming documentary, "Instadocs: The Prediction Games," arguing that the preview includes misleading and defamatory material.
In a cease-and-desist letter sent Friday, Kalshi said the trailer uses fabricated documents and presents false claims about the company. The documentary is part of Netflix's fast-turnaround "Instadoc" series and explores the rapid growth of prediction markets.
Netflix says the film includes interviews with Shayne Coplan, CEO of Polymarket, and Tarek Mansour, CEO of Kalshi. The trailer highlights a Las Vegas gathering where attendees discuss their success in prediction markets while watching the World Cup final.
Kalshi says one scene showing a $5,000 bet on a phone is actually a screenshot from May 2025, before a Nevada court order restricted the company's operations there. The company argues the trailer could wrongly suggest the trade happened in Nevada after that ruling.
According to Kalshi, a Netflix employee had previously agreed to remove the receipt from the finished documentary, which is scheduled for release on Sunday, July 26. Netflix, however, says the footage itself is authentic and that the bet shown was made before any Nevada restriction took effect.
