Julianne Moore's West Village Duplex Blends Modern Art With New York History

Julianne Moore's West Village residence brings together modern art, thoughtful design and the layered character of a historic New York building. Shared with filmmaker Bart Freundlich, the two-bedroom duplex reflects a collected approach to living rather than a display-driven interior.

Located in a 1920s former residential hotel, the home retains the energy of a neighborhood shaped by longtime residents, compact apartments and creative city life. Moore has described the building as distinctive and eclectic, with a sense of continuity across generations.

A home designed around art

The renovation was led by architectural designer Oliver Freundlich, creating a calm setting for Moore's collection while respecting the apartment's prewar identity. The interiors balance modernist preferences with warm materials and carefully considered proportions.

Among the works presented in the living space are pieces by Louise Bourgeois and Nan Goldin, alongside objects by Rogan Gregory, Nancy Pearce, Lisa Eisner and Tiffany & Co. Other areas feature works by Robin Rice, Isabel Rower, David Armstrong and Thomas Struth.

Rather than separating art from daily life, the duplex integrates sculpture, ceramics and framed works into its rooms as part of an evolving personal environment. The result is a home that values atmosphere, memory and craftsmanship as much as individual artworks.

Moore's approach suggests how private homes can become meaningful cultural spaces, where historic architecture and contemporary collecting continue to shape more personal, human-centered interiors.
