Jonathan Anderson Draws on Lynda Benglis for Dior's New Haute Couture Vision

Jonathan Anderson has turned to the work of Lynda Benglis once again, this time shaping Dior's latest haute couture presentation around the American sculptor's distinctive approach to form. The show, staged at the Musée Rodin in Paris, marked Anderson's second haute couture collection for the house since becoming creative director in 2025.

Dior described the collection as a couture interpretation of Benglis's sculptural language, where flat materials evolve into dimensional works through knotting, pleating, and molding. That idea appeared throughout the runway in garments that emphasized volume, texture, and movement.

Several looks reflected the artist's influence directly, including a gray shawl, a bronze-and-gold top, and a silver gown shaped with asymmetric bow-like details. Headpieces echoed Benglis's sculptural silhouettes, while select handbags also carried her creative input, adding another layer of collaboration to the collection.

The inspiration also reached Benglis's Peacock series, informed by her connection to Ahmedabad in Gujarat, India. Bright floral and beaded accents appeared in the collection's 24th and 30th looks, translating the visual energy of that body of work into couture form.

Anderson has previously explored Benglis's art in fashion, including during Loewe's Spring/Summer 2024 show. His continuing interest highlights how contemporary couture can bridge art, craft, and design in fresh ways. The result points to a future where fashion increasingly functions as a living dialogue with modern art.
