Reliance Jio has broadened access to JioPC, its cloud-based PC service, allowing any internet user in India to subscribe and turn an existing computer into a more capable machine without replacing hardware.
The service streams a virtual desktop from Jio's cloud infrastructure and is now available beyond the company's own broadband base. Users can choose plans that scale up to eight virtual CPUs, 16GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage, bringing a more flexible computing model to everyday devices.
Jio says even older computers, including systems around eight years old, can gain the processing power needed for modern AI-driven tasks. Pricing starts at ₹1,000 for two months, while annual plans are offered at ₹4,000 for 8GB RAM and 500GB storage, or ₹5,000 for 16GB RAM and 1TB storage.
The timing aligns with a large and growing PC market in India. IDC estimates the country had more than 65 million PCs in use in 2025, with the installed base expected to approach 69 million by the end of 2026. At the same time, replacement cycles are stretching as users keep devices longer.
Industry analysts say this shift could help create a new model of computing, where people pay for performance as a service rather than upgrading hardware every few years. That could be especially relevant for students, households, and small businesses looking for affordable access to stronger digital tools.
Still, the success of the model will depend on reliable connectivity and whether users see cloud computing as a practical everyday option. If adoption grows, services like JioPC could reshape how future PCs are defined, especially in markets where flexibility and affordability matter most.
