Ray Bertka, a 35-year-old from Hartville, Ohio, exemplifies dedication and perseverance. As a successful entrepreneur and devoted family man, Ray found himself prioritizing everything but his health. After years of neglect, he received a wake-up call when he realized he had gained significant weight. Once tipping the scales at over 300 pounds, he is now preparing for his first physique competition, showcasing his remarkable transformation.

For most of his adult life, Ray struggled with his weight, which gradually escalated during his late 20s and early 30s. As the founder and CEO of an insurtech company, he became consumed with work, often neglecting his health amidst long hours and constant travel. The stress of building a business while supporting his family took a toll, leading to unhealthy eating habits and a sedentary lifestyle.

Ray faced a turning point on New Year's Eve 2023. After a night of indulgence, he stepped on the scale, expecting to see a familiar number. Instead, he was shocked to see 303 pounds. This moment of realization sparked a determination to change his life. He confided in his wife about his desire to improve his health, receiving her unwavering support.

Ray adopted the Whole30 program, focusing on whole foods while eliminating processed items. This approach helped him understand how food affected his body, leading to a natural weight loss of 100 pounds over 11 months without ever stepping foot in a gym. He learned about macronutrients and began to prioritize balanced meals, which contributed to his success.

Despite his weight loss, Ray faced another health challenge when he was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease. This diagnosis motivated him to incorporate exercise into his routine. He began with simple activities like walking and golf before eventually entering the gym, where he structured his workouts and tracked his progress.

Ray's commitment to his health led him to lose an additional 21 pounds while managing his condition. He now enjoys a healthy lifestyle, prioritizing whole foods and balanced meals. His journey has not only transformed his body but also enhanced his mental clarity and resilience.

Ray's next goal is to compete in his first physique show in May 2026. He emphasizes that true change stems from consistency and patience, encouraging others to prioritize their health for a better quality of life.
