GrapheneOS, the privacy-focused mobile operating system built on the Android Open Source Project, is preparing for a major expansion beyond Google Pixel devices. The project is now working with Motorola to bring support to selected phones in the company's 2027 lineup.
Today, GrapheneOS is known for its strict security model, sandboxed Google Play option, and emphasis on reducing data exposure. To qualify for support, devices must meet demanding standards such as long-term updates, secure hardware integration, and advanced memory protection.
According to the project, Motorola's current phones are close to meeting those requirements, but the 2027 models are expected to include the missing hardware features needed for full compatibility. The first supported Motorola devices are expected to be standard slab-style phones, with foldable and flip models also on the roadmap.
