Google has introduced a smoother way to move between password manager apps on Android, removing the need to export credentials through CSV files. The new flow is designed to make switching faster, simpler, and more secure.
With the updated system, users can transfer passwords and passkeys directly from one app to another. After opening a new password manager, users can choose to import or copy data from their previous app. Android then identifies compatible managers on the device and coordinates the transfer process.
Before completing the move, users can review what will be shared and confirm the action in just a few taps. Google says this approach also reduces the risks that can come with handling CSV files, while keeping passkeys ready to use without extra setup.
The feature is already rolling out with Google's own password manager and selected partners, including 1Password, Bitwarden, and Dashlane. Support is available on devices running Android 8 and later.
As digital identity tools continue to evolve, this kind of interoperability could help make secure account management more effortless across the Android ecosystem.
