Robotics startup Generalist has reached a $3 billion valuation after securing additional funding led by 8VC, according to people familiar with the deal. The new capital is said to total nearly $200 million, extending a Series B round that began in June.
That earlier financing, led by Radical Ventures, brought in $400 million at a $2 billion valuation. With the latest extension, the company's total round has grown to $600 million, underscoring strong investor interest in next-generation robotics.
Founded in 2024 by former Google DeepMind researchers Pete Florence and Andy Zeng, along with ex-Boston Dynamics engineer Andrew Barry, Generalist is building an AI foundation model designed to work across different robots. The company says its Gen 1.5 model can help robots learn new tasks from short video demonstrations lasting just 3 to 12 seconds.
The startup is also working with a small group of customers to refine the system for real-world use cases. Its backers include Nvidia, Union Square Ventures, Bezos Expeditions, and AI researcher Fei-Fei Li.
Generalist is part of a broader wave of robotics companies aiming to create more flexible machine intelligence, with investors watching closely for a possible breakthrough that could reshape how robots learn, adapt, and assist in everyday life.
