Firefox is broadening its Smart Window experience with three new features designed to make browsing more fluid, organized, and context-aware. The AI-powered tool, previously known as AI Window, works as an optional assistant inside the browser and lets users ask general questions or query the page they are currently viewing.
Mozilla says the latest beta additions focus on helping people move through the web with less friction. One new capability lets users search for information without leaving the current window, using a partnership with Exa to surface results and sources directly in place. Another update brings automatic tab grouping, allowing Smart Window to suggest clusters of related tabs. A third feature adds visual previews to browsing history, making it easier to identify past pages at a glance.
The company is also developing a more memory-like browsing experience. In the near future, Smart Window may surface recent browsing journeys by drawing from tabs and history, helping users return to earlier sessions more quickly. Mozilla is additionally working on an AI form-filling tool aimed at simplifying repetitive online tasks.
All of these AI features remain optional, and Firefox users can turn Smart Window off at any time or disable AI features entirely. That flexibility keeps the browser aligned with its privacy-first identity while still exploring practical uses for intelligent assistance. The update points toward a future where browsers become more adaptive, efficient, and personalized without losing user control.
