Def Con Conference Excludes Individuals Tied to Epstein

Def Con, recognized as one of the premier hacking conferences globally, has announced the exclusion of three individuals connected to Jeffrey Epstein. This decision was made public on Wednesday, highlighting a growing awareness within the cybersecurity community.

The conference's rationale for banning Pablos Holman, Vincenzo Iozzo, and Joichi Ito stems from their appearances in recent Department of Justice documents linked to Epstein's investigation. This move follows a report that detailed emails exchanged between these individuals and Epstein, raising concerns about their associations.

Joan Vollero, a representative for Iozzo, expressed to TechCrunch that the actions taken by Def Con seem to be more symbolic than substantive, noting that Iozzo has rarely attended the conference over the past two decades. "This decision appears to be a hasty judgment without any thorough investigation into Mr. Iozzo's conduct," she stated.

Def Con's decision to ban these individuals comes shortly after similar actions were reported by other cybersecurity events, such as Black Hat and Code Blue, which also distanced themselves from Iozzo amid ongoing revelations regarding his connections to Epstein.

Iozzo, a seasoned cybersecurity expert and current CEO of SlashID, previously held a director position at CrowdStrike following the acquisition of his startup, IperLane. His interactions with Epstein reportedly occurred between 2014 and 2018, a period during which Epstein faced numerous allegations of misconduct.

According to Iozzo, his dealings with Epstein were limited to discussions about potential business ventures and emerging technologies, asserting that he never witnessed or engaged in any illegal activities.

Joichi Ito, who stepped down as the director of the MIT Media Lab in 2019, faced scrutiny for his prior knowledge of Epstein's criminal background and their extensive ties. Meanwhile, Holman, a venture capital partner and technology futurist, had maintained contact with Epstein since 2010 and was involved in efforts to mitigate negative publicity surrounding him.

In 2013, there were discussions about Epstein attending Def Con, although it remains unclear if he ever did, as the conference's founder indicated that Epstein had not participated.
