Databricks has acquired Row Zero, an early-stage cloud spreadsheet company designed to handle more than one million live rows. The move reflects a broader effort to bring familiar spreadsheet workflows closer to governed enterprise data and AI-powered analytics.
Row Zero's technology is expected to complement Databricks tools such as Genie, an AI assistant that enables users to ask business questions in natural language. Finance, sales and operations teams can use conversational prompts to explore topics such as revenue performance, profit margins and customer pipelines.
Spreadsheets Meet Governed Data
The integration aims to let teams work with large-scale business data through spreadsheet formats and formulas they already know, while keeping information within a secure cloud environment. Rather than moving data across disconnected files, organizations could analyze and update information through a more controlled workflow.
Founded by former AWS and Tableau engineers, Row Zero developed its platform for high-volume, collaborative spreadsheet use. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
The deal also continues Databricks' acquisition strategy in the AI data ecosystem. During 2026, the company added capabilities in AI agent evaluation, interactive notebooks, security operations and lightweight local databases through several startup purchases.
By combining AI agents, business intelligence and spreadsheet-based interfaces, Databricks is positioning data analysis to become more accessible for everyday enterprise teams. This approach could help shape a future where advanced data tools feel as intuitive as the workplace software people already use.
