ChatGPT's macOS Messages Plug-in Brings Smarter Texting to Apple Users

ChatGPT for Mac now includes an Apple Messages plug-in, letting users draft, send, and search iMessage chats with local processing and approval controls.

ChatGPT's macOS Messages Plug-in Brings Smarter Texting to Apple Users

OpenAI's ChatGPT desktop app for Mac has gained a new Apple Messages plug-in, expanding its local productivity tools beyond files, emails and screenshots. The feature lets users work with iMessage conversations directly from the macOS app.

The plug-in is designed to run on the user's Mac rather than sending chat data to the cloud. It also does not create a full index of messages, and conversations handled through the tool do not sync to ChatGPT's web or mobile apps.

After installation, users can ask ChatGPT to draft replies, send messages, or search through conversation history with natural prompts. It can help identify who has messaged most often, surface follow-ups, or locate details from past chats such as event plans and delivery updates.

Message sending includes a review step, giving users the option to approve each text before it is sent. In selected conversations, automatic sending can also be enabled. The tool is available to Mac users through the ChatGPT desktop app's Plugins section.

The update highlights how AI is moving deeper into everyday communication, blending convenience with local processing and user control. In the future, similar tools may make digital messaging more organized, responsive, and context-aware.
