Chanel is expanding its cultural footprint in Asia through a new partnership between the Chanel Culture Fund and Dib Bangkok, marking the launch of the brand's annual Chanel Gateway Commission in Southeast Asia.
The program will spotlight one artist from the region each year, inviting them to create a large-scale work for display at the Thai contemporary art museum. Founded by collector Purat "Chang" Osathanugrah, Dib Bangkok opened in December 2025 with a collection of around 1,000 works.
For the first edition, Chanel selected Thai artist Nawin Nuthong, whose practice blends folklore, history, and interactive gaming. His commission, Project 147, is a multimedia installation that combines screen-based imagery with six-player gaming consoles, turning digital play into an artistic experience.
Chanel's arts, culture, and heritage president Yana Peel said the collaboration reflects the brand's long-term interest in Thailand's creative scene and its growing role in the international art landscape. Osathanugrah described the project as a bridge between memory, technology, and the next generation of artists.
The installation will remain on view from September 26 through May 3, 2027. As Chanel continues to work with cultural institutions across multiple countries, this partnership points to a future where luxury, technology, and local creativity move even closer together.
