A new chapter for the dating platform
Bumble has agreed to be acquired by Ithaca Holdings in a deal valued at $1.3 billion. If completed, the transaction would take the dating company private, giving it a different setting in which to plan its next phase.
Founded in 2014 by Whitney Wolfe Herd, Bumble became known for a women-first approach that gave women the choice to make the first move. The company went public in 2021, and Wolfe Herd says she will remain actively involved alongside Ithaca Holdings and Bumble's team.
The agreement comes as dating platforms explore alternatives to familiar swipe-based interactions. Bumble has been developing AI-powered features and putting more emphasis on in-person connections. Its Plans offering, announced in July, is designed to bring people together through real-world activities, while the company is also exploring new ways for users to interact.
A move away from public markets could give Bumble greater room to test changes beyond the cadence of quarterly investor expectations. Its next steps may help shape how dating platforms combine digital discovery with more personal, offline experiences.
