Anthropic's reported private-market valuation of $965 billion has put the estimated stakes of several early and later investors in the billions. The company is expected to pursue a public listing this year, potentially at a valuation of up to $2 trillion. These figures reflect estimated share values, not cash returns.
Investors' estimated stakes
Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt invested in Anthropic's 2021 Series A, when the company was valued at $461 million. His roughly 1% holding would be worth close to $10 billion at the latest reported private valuation.
Investment firm Iconiq invested $6 billion when Anthropic was valued at $183 billion; its stake is now estimated at $17 billion. Menlo Ventures, which led the Series D and has invested more than $1 billion in total, holds a stake estimated at $14 billion.
Sequoia invested $3 billion earlier this year at a $380 billion valuation, securing about 1% of the company. Sound Ventures invested $35 million in the 2023 Series C and later added $400 million; the value of its current holding is described as being in the billions.
Spark Capital invested $75 million in the same Series C, when Anthropic was valued at $5 billion. Its position is now estimated at $7 billion, more than 90 times the original investment.
If Anthropic goes public, the listing could reshape how investors value stakes in major AI companies and signal how public markets assess the sector's long-term potential.
