Miu Miu has named filmmaker Alice Diop as the artist behind its 2026 commission for the Art Basel Paris Public Program, extending the brand's growing dialogue with contemporary art.
Diop will present Geste de Consolation at the Palais d'Iéna, home of France's Economic, Social and Environmental Council, as well as within the Miu Miu runway setting. The project becomes the brand's third commission for Art Basel Paris, following works by Goshka Macuga in 2024 and Helen Marten in 2025.
The new work continues a creative thread begun with Diop's 2025 short film Fragments for Venus, part of Miu Miu's "Women's Tales" series. That film explored the historical and contemporary representation of Black women, a theme that remains central to Diop's visual language.
Known for documentaries such as La Permanence and Nous, Diop has built a body of work focused on identity, memory, and social space. Her feature Saint Omer brought her wider international recognition after premiering at the Venice Film Festival in 2022.
Geste de Consolation will be Diop's first exhibition-format project. The installation is set to combine film, archive material, photography, textiles, books, and live performance into a layered visitor experience. The exhibition will also include a space titled Chambre à soi, designed as a reflective room shaped by literature and textile works.
With its blend of cinema, installation, and performance, the project points toward a future where fashion platforms increasingly serve as spaces for ambitious artistic storytelling.
